How everything began…
The industrial revolution reached Magdeburg in the 1830s.
Within a few decades the city grew into one of Germany’s leading industrial centers.
At the beginning of the 20th century Magdeburg’s industrial sites continued to expand, sparking ever new technical innovations.
On January 16, 1945, shortly before the end of World War II, Magdeburg was almost completely destroyed for the second time in the city’s history.
As a consequence of the war and new political realities in Germany, Magdeburg’s machine-building factories were nationalized.
After German reunification in 1990, Magdeburg’s industry and, consequently, the machine-building underwent radical structural changes.
Almost all industrial enterprises that had once shaped the city’s face succumbed to this process going bankrupt.
FAM Förderanlagen Magdeburg, however, was successfully privatized in 1993 and made a fresh start.
Over the years FAM has matured from a manufacturer and supplier of separate components to a general contractor specializing in custom solutions in materials handling and conveying. The difference brought about by these difficult years of modernization is immense.
Today, FAM is a company ranking among the top five in its class worldwide.
With its cutting edge engineering competence and in-house production facilities, FAM carries forward the long and rich tradition of machine building in Magdeburg.
FAM clients come from all corners of the globe wherever raw materials are mined and transported or port facilities need to be upgraded. FAM range of products includes bulk materials handling and loading/unloading systems, opencast mining equipment, and turnkey installations for the mining, processing and handling of minerals and raw materials.
FAM has become a true one-stop shop offering consulting services, planning, development, design and engineering, manufacturing, assembly and erection, commissioning, quality management and control, repair and maintenance, upgrading and customer service.
